Big Brothers Are Watching

Published: February 3, 2010

Lincolnshire based company, Fashion Wear Services (UK) Ltd, have recently had their cosmetic eye accessories featured on cult TV show “Big Brother”.

As part of the “House of Horrors” task, big brother housemates had to dress up as horror characters – and Big Brother chose cosmetic eye accessories manufactured in Lincolnshire to finish off the ghoulish costumes.

Funky Eyes are made by new start up company, Fashion Wear Services (UK) Ltd, based in Alford, Lincolnshire. The company has been set up by Bob Tanda, who has over ten years experience in the field, and his wife Tracy Tanda. The business has grown since starting up in April this year, and now exports its fantastic eye accessories all over the world.

The range of accessories are being accepted in High Street fashion stores, Fancy Dress stores, Hair And Beauty outlets, and now they have been featured in one of televisions most popular shows.

Operations and Marketing Manager, Robbie Marklew, from Grimsby, is ecstatic. “We have really been grafting hard on our product range – the whole team here in Alford are very, very passionate, and to get this kind of recognition on a national level is phenomenal. We manufacture all different styles of accessories for the eye – colours, patterns and now we have just recently perfected an Ultra Violet range, aimed at the night-clubber’s. But with the guys from Big Brother wearing the eyes – just in time for Halloween – we are expecting to be busier than ever.”

The company, set up by the Tanda’s, has really grown from strength to strength. New trade customers and even national distributers have been extremely interested in the product. Mr Tanda gathered a team of like minded individuals who he knew could take the product to the market place quickly and efficiently; and so far there have been very positive results. At present, the manufacturer is awaiting FDA approval so that his brand new product can be exported to America, a market that has been so far untapped.

“The American paperwork has been really hard work, but we have focussed on the job in hand and closed the American requirements really quickly.” Said Mr Marklew. “American interest is phenomenal in our product range; we must receive twenty emails a day asking for supply in time for Halloween, so when the paperwork is approved we will be ready to go!”

The eye accessories can be worn by anyone – they don’t affect your vision as they have no corrective power; they are purely a fashion accessory.

Mr Tanda’s philosophy for the business is very much one of family. All of the team at the Alford site are very close, and includes two husband and wife teams. “Bob really encourages the team and family interaction. We have a great team at Alford, Mums, Dads, Brothers Sisters, and even grand-parents. Its really great that the team get on so well, and that the business is such a success. It gives us all a real sense of achievement.” says Mr Marklew.
