Blind and Mesh Contact Lenses | Which Would You Choose?

Blind and Mesh Contact Lenses

Whether you’re transforming into a supernatural being or becoming a member of the undead, adding a pair of mesh or blind contact lenses is a simple and highly effective way to enhance your creepy vibe. The full coverage appearance of these contact lenses completely transforms the look of your human eye into something that immediately draws the attention of others; covering the pupil with a blind eye lens disguises your natural iris and creates an unhuman finish.

Blind and mesh contact lenses provide a similar result, however, they aren’t exactly the same. Blind effect contact lenses are complete with an opaque surface; these lenses cover the natural iris and pupil completely so that very little light can enter. On the other hand, Mesh Contact Lenses feature a grid-like surface that allows light to enter through the very small holes in the contact lens design. Whilst these lenses feature slightly different designs, they both provide a blind eye effect that is particularly popular around Halloween time.

Here’s some of the most popular makeup looks to create using blind or mesh contact lenses:

  • Zombie
  • Alien
  • Mummy
  • Vampire
  • Witch

This style of lens is often chosen as a favourite for many different events, however, when purchasing either blind or mesh contact lenses, you should consider the effect that these will have on your overall vision. Due to the limited amount of light that mesh and blind lenses allow through, vision is incredibly limited, if not zero. As we’ve mentioned above, mesh lenses do feature small holes so you can get a very small amount of broken vision when wearing these, however this is minimal. Blind contact lenses do not feature a pupil hole or any sort of pattern that will allow light through so vision is extremely limited when wearing these.

Due to the fact that vision is not fully intact, blind or mesh contact lenses should never be worn when driving or when full vision is required. We also recommend that you do not wear both lenses when walking around or going out; instead, why not wear just one of these designs and choose a different style that allows for full vision in the other eye? These contact lens styles make a great accessory for photoshoots or portfolio additions; why not get creative and add a super spooky look to your collection?

Here’s some ideas from our affiliates and how they chose to wear their blind or mesh contact lenses:

In this look, @jamiyasbake transformed into a Pride zombie and finished the look by adding one of our Mesh Red Contact Lenses. By creating a grey zombie-like skin tone and adding rainbow-coloured features, Ja-Miya was able to put a unique twist on this Pride look. The red mesh contact lenses are the perfect fit for this look as they pair well with the zombie character, whilst the red colouring enhances and perfectly matches the vibrant aesthetic!

Whilst blind lenses are a popular option for Halloween, they are also often used in the world of cosplaying. Here, Funky Lenses affiliate @babyshivers has used the Blind Red Contact Lenses to complete this Scarlet Witch cosplay look. As shown in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, the Scarlet Witch appearance features glowing red eyes making the red eye contact lenses a great option for this look!

Makeup doesn’t always have to be a character or a theme, you can also be inspired by your own surroundings. @leahcomptonn created this beautiful makeup look inspired by the colours and patterns formed underwater. Leah chose to complete this look by adding a single white mesh contact lens to the side of her makeup that strongly depicts the appearance of water.

If horror is your thing then you’ll love this Nosferatu look by our affiliate @emmaisasink. Using the Blind White Contact Lenses, Emma has successfully dramatised and enhanced this vampiric makeup look. These all white eye contacts are the perfect option for creepy character makeup like this; they pronounce the undead aesthetic and take the finish to a whole new level.
