Questions For When I’m Buying Contact Lenses

How much are coloured contacts?

Contact lenses vary in price depending on their quality and duration. That’s why we have plenty of different options on our website. If you’re shopping on a budget and want to find some cheap lenses to test out, you can take a look at our Chromaview daily lenses. These single-use contacts are among our cheapest options, and can often be found in our Multibuy offer, which lets you purchase 3 lenses for the price of 2. Shop our sales here for affordable contact lenses! Or, if you’re interested in something a little more permanent, you can check out our monthly and 90-day durations. These lenses may cost a little more, but they’ll be worth it in the long run, as you’ll be able to reuse them time and time again!

How do I get coloured contacts?

You can get coloured contacts right here, on the Funky Lenses website! We offer hundreds of different natural and costume styles, from gory SFX lenses to character-inspired cosplay contacts to natural and even transparent prescription lenses

Which contact lenses are the best?

As we said above, we stock many different styles and brands of lenses, and we love all of them equally, but there’s always a best option for what you need. If you’re looking for luxury natural contacts, we recommend our Freshlook and AirOptix lenses. If you want costume or SFX perfection, Eyefusion contacts may suit you better. All of the brands on our website are safe and certified, with high-quality materials and manufacturing. You can even check the product page of a pair of lenses to ensure its FDA rating or CE marking.

Are coloured contacts safe?

Yes! We pride ourselves on selling top-quality lenses that are completely safe and comfortable for all of our customers. That being said, you should always consult a trusted eye-care provider before buying your first pair of lenses. This will ensure your suitability for contact lenses in general, and will also provide you with a set of eye measurements for the lenses that you want to purchase. Getting the right measurements for your eyes will ensure that you can insert the lenses easily and smoothly, and that you won’t feel any discomfort. You can also check each product page for handy scales telling you how flexible the lenses are (i.e, how comfortable). If you have any other questions about the safety or comfort of our contact lenses, you can check out our other lens care guides.

Who can wear contact lenses?

Anyone can wear contact lenses, provided you don’t have any allergies or medical conditions that exclude you. We do our best to stock a wide variety of lenses, so that absolutely everyone can find the perfect pair for them. You can browse our lenses by style, colour, brand, range, material, and even prescriptive strength.

How would I look with coloured contacts?

One of the main factors that affects how different people look with different contacts is eye colour. Customers with darker eyes may find it harder to find lenses that create a vivid transformation. That’s why we created our ‘Lenses for Dark Eyes’ page. This page has been carefully curated to include only our high-coverage lenses. These contacts contain vivid pigment and will cover darker eyes for a bold and impactful colour transformation. If you’re ever unsure what a pair of lenses will look like on you, check out the product page for more information. There, you’ll be able to find a coverage scale that tells you how pigmented the lenses are, as well as more images showing what the lenses look like on different eye colours and skin tones.

Or, you can take a look at our affiliate gallery, which shows our contact lenses in action on a range of artists!

Questions For When I Receive My Contact Lenses

What is contact lens power?

When you receive your lenses, you’ll notice a few different numbers on the packaging. Any number with a + or - before it refers to the prescriptive strength of the lenses. On the Funky Lenses website, we offer both prescription and non-prescription (plano, 0.00) lenses. You can select your desired prescriptive strength when you purchase the lenses. For our US customers, this will entail performing a Rx Check (find out more here). It’s important that you get the right prescription for your eyes, so that you can have clear and unimpaired vision while wearing your new lenses.

What is contact lens duration?

Your lens packaging will also tell you the contact lens duration. On our website, we currently stock three different durations: one-day, 30-day, and 90-day. Our one-day lenses are single-use, and should only ever be worn once, while our 30-day and 90-day lenses are reusable. As it says in the name, you can use 30-day lenses for 30 consecutive days after opening, and our 90-day lenses for 90 consecutive days after opening.

Please note: you should never wear any contact lenses for longer than 8 hours at a time, to avoid your eyes from drying out.

What is contact lens expiry?

Finally, your contact lens packaging will also state the expiry date of your lenses. This is just like the expiry date for any other product- after this date, the lenses need to be thrown away, and must no longer be used. You should always check the expiry date before opening your lenses. If, for any reason, you have mistakenly received a pack of expired lenses, you should leave the pack unopened and get in touch with our customer services team, who will be happy to help get you a replacement.

How do I prepare my contacts?

If this is your first time using contacts, don’t worry. The process may seem daunting, but we’re here to help. The most important thing is making sure you have some contact lens solution ready, along with a sterile lens case. You can find both in our accessories section below. When you open the packaging, don’t be tempted to insert the lenses immediately- the preserving solution contained in the blister packs is very strong, and may cause you discomfort and irritation. Instead, rinse off the lenses with eye-safe contact solution, which is much gentler for the eyes. Once you’ve thoroughly washed the lenses in solution and checked for any damage or debris, you should leave your lenses in the sterile lens case, soaking in some more fresh eye-safe solution. Leave them for a minimum of two hours, at which point they’ll be ready to insert!

How do I put in contact lenses?

Inserting your contact lenses might seem scary, but it’s really not as bad as it may seem. Make sure that you have clean hands, a clear station, and a little bit of spare time to try things out. If you’re nervous to use your fingers, you can use one of our silicone inserters instead. Simply hold up the contact lens, making sure that the right side is facing up. You want the lens to form a U-shape on your finger, with a soft, round shape. If the lens looks more like a V, it may be inside out. Once your contact lens is ready to go, use your dominant hand to hold it up to the eye. With your other hand, gently pull your upper eyelid out of the way. Pop the lens onto the eye, and blink a few times, allowing it to settle into place. If this takes a couple of tries, don’t worry. You’ll get more confident with this process in no time!

Questions For When I’m Wearing My Contact Lenses

How long can I wear contact lenses?

We’ve already touched on this, but the main rule is to NEVER wear contact lenses for over 8 hours. This is just so that your eyes don’t dry out too much. You should also never wear contact lenses overnight, in the shower, or underwater. As long as you follow these basic guidelines, as well as your lens duration and expiry date, you’re good to go!

How do I take out contact lenses?

Just as you inserted your contact lenses with ease, so too can you master removing your contacts. With clean hands, simply use one hand to hold your eyelids open, and use the other to gently pinch the contact lens out of your eye. This may seem odd at first, but we promise it’ll become easier with practice.

Questions For Taking Care Of My Contact Lenses

How do I clean contact lenses?

Just like you did before inserting your lenses, you can use eye-safe contact solution to clean your lenses in between uses. Of course, if your lenses are single-use, you can simply dispose of them and move on. But if you’re using your monthly lenses again, you’ll need to clean them and store them safely before your next use.

How do I store contact lenses?

Once you’ve washed your lenses with contact lens solution, you can put a little fresh solution in a sterile contact lens case and pop your lenses in there to soak. This will be the best place for them to be until your next use.

Questions For Troubleshooting Discomfort

What do I do if my contacts are blurry?

Some styles, like our blind and mesh lenses, may impair your vision due to a covered pupil. However, this will always be clearly stated on the product page. If you did not expect your lenses to impair your vision, and can’t find anything that mentions poor visibility on the website, here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot blurry vision: firstly, remove the lenses. Then, check that nothing seems wrong. Are the lenses the wrong prescription or measurements for your eyes? Has the expiry date passed? Is there any debris or damage on the lenses? Are the lenses dry? Are the lenses the wrong way round? Have you been wearing the lenses for too long? Have you put any foreign substance (even water) on the lenses? If the answer to all of these questions is no, and the lenses are still giving you blurry vision, please get in touch with our customer service team.

Why do my eyes hurt?

If your eyes ever hurt when you’re wearing a pair of contact lenses, you should remove them immediately. All of our lenses are entirely safe to use, but there is a chance that you may have an allergy or condition that prevents you from having those materials in your eyes. The most likely cause of discomfort is wrong eye measurements or debris on the lens. You can go through our troubleshooting tips above and try inserting the lenses again, but if you’re still feeling pain, we recommend taking the lenses out and contacting a trusted eye-care provider immediately.
