What are contact lenses?

Contact lenses are small, flexible lenses that go straight onto your eyeball. They cn be clear or colored, prescriptive or non-prescriptive, and can last for different amounts of time. Here at Funky Lenses, we do our best to stay stocked with a huge variety of lenses, from daily natural contacts to re-usable cosplay lenses

How to use my contact lenses- Before opening

When you first buy your contact lenses, you’ll need to check a few things. First of all, make sure that you’re purchasing the right lenses for you. Check the measurements, prescription, and duration, so that you can be sure you’ll be satisfied with your purchase. You should also make sure to read everything on the product page, in case there are any key features that you should know about. For instance, some special lens types will impair your vision. Others may be very thin, and not very impactful over dark eyes. These are all important factors to consider when choosing lenses.

When you receive your lenses, make sure to thoroughly check the packaging first. Are the lenses the right color, style, and duration? Are they in date? Sometimes, lenses will come in blister packs with a little see-through window. If that’s the case, check the lens for damage or debris before opening the package. Unopened boxes are much easier to return in case of any issues. Once you open the lenses, it’s time to prep them for use. Contact lenses are preserved in harsh solution, which can be uncomfortable for the eye. So, before your first use, you want to make sure that you rinse the lenses in eye-safe contact lens solution, which is much gentler, as well as antibacterial. Then, leave the lenses to soak in eye-safe solution for 2 hours. After this, you’ll be ready to insert them!

How to insert contact lenses

  1. Make sure you’ve washed your hands!

  2. Hold the lens on your index finger, right-side up.

  3. Hold your eyelid open, and place the lens on your eyeball.

  4. Blink to adjust.

You can find more information about inserting lenses here.

Wearing contact lenses- DOs and DON’Ts

DO soak your lenses in eye-safe solution for 2 hours before your first use, and in between each use.

DO always handle your lenses with clean hands.

DON’T ever wear your lenses for longer than their duration, or after their expiry date.

DON’T ever wear your lenses for over 8 hours at a time, or overnight.

DON’T let your lenses come into contact with any foreign substance (not even water).

A lot of contact lens wear can be made easier with the help of accessories such as our eye-safe solution, sterile lens cases, and silicone inserters. Shop the range of contact lens accessories below.

Can I re-use my contact lenses?

You can re-use some contact lenses, but it depends on durations. Our daily lenses, for instance, can only be used once, and must then be disposed of. However, our 30-day and 90-day lenses can be used again and again for the remainder of their duration. You can find out more about durations in our blog.

What do I do if my eyes hurt?

If your contact lenses are causing you pain or discomfort, we recommend removing them and asking yourself a series of troubleshooting questions, to ensure that you’ve done everything correctly:

  • Did I check the lenses for damage or debris?

  • Did I check that the lenses were in date?

  • Did I prepare the lenses by leaving them to soak in eye-safe solution for 2 hours?

  • Did I insert the lenses the right way round?

  • Did I wear the lenses for longer than 8 hours?

  • Did I let the lenses fall into contact with a foreign substance like water, sunscreen, or moisturiser?

If the answer to all of these questions is correct, and the lenses are still hurting your eyes, then we strongly recommend going to a trusted healthcare provider for more information. You can find out more about troubleshooting discomfort here.
